It's something we offer the seasoned athlete as well as the first time runner: an opportunity to win at whatever you are competing for.  Whether you have hopes for a new PR, to run a longer distance than before or to just plain get yourself to the start line, we are commited to making sure you win.

Signature Series

WHAT IS IT?
The 2013 Run For Your Life Signature Series presented by Novant Health is a Series of 8 events, that are more than just events! We took your favorite races, mixed them with entertainment like you’ve never seen before, threw in some things to get an extra smile (like a Shamrock finish line photo opp equipped with ginormous green sunglasses, sparkly wigs, leprechaun vests and plenty of other green paraphernalia, ready for your post-race pose), and topped them off with the perfect amount of food, beer and face painting for the kids! We have stepped up our game folks, and these events are festivals in and of themselves!

WHAT TO LOOK FOR AT THESE EVENTS

  • Live Entertainment
  • Kid’s Zone – Picture face painting, bounce houses, balloon artists and more!
  • Cheer Station – Your one-stop-shop for making posters and grabbing noise makers so you are best equipped to cheer on your loved one!
  • Mobile Run For Your Life - Charlotte’s #1 Specialty Running Store will be on-site to direct you to the best product, upcoming races, and the latest on training programs!
  • Novant Health Recovery Zone – We want to provide you the best in post event recovery. Check back for more details on what you will see here!
  • Best of the Best in Amenities – Premier tee-shirts, random give-aways, new and improved awards!

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
We’ve got something for everyone!

Seasoned Athlete
You know who you are! You love fitness and healthy living! You can’t imagine going a week or even a day without a good workout. No pain no gain! We know you – you’re looking for the next goal, the next challenge, the next opportunity to put yourself to the test and see what you are made of!

This Series offers you an opportunity to not only build on your distance but we will also award those that are top of their age group based on lowest cumulative time! Better yet, if you really want something to aim for, we challenge you to compete to be Charlotte’s Runner of the Year! See the Awards section below for details.

Move-on Maven
You are pursuing something NEW for yourself. You have made a decision to pursue a healthier lifestyle – and running is a good place to start. Or maybe you enjoy working out, but decided to spice up your regiment with some road races. You also may already enjoy running, but want to find a way to challenge yourself with new distances, new courses and new experiences. Either way, you are ready for a change – you are ready to move-on!

This Series offers you an opportunity to pursue new goals and to stay accountable to them throughout the year. This isn’t a one time event my friends! With this Series you can set up your goals for the year, monitor your progress from race to race, adjust your goals as you move along (i.e. try to beat your previous race time, challenge yourself to a longer distance) and the best part, YOU decide what you want to accomplish! Better yet, we challenge you to be a member of the Signature 8 Club. See the Awards section below for details.

Social Butterfly
Oh yes – you love running – when you are shoulder to shoulder, training on the road with a friend. And the post-race atmosphere is your favorite – because you get to celebrate what you just accomplished with your training partners. Come to think of it, it may not be the running you love so much, but it’s pursuing goals with other people, it’s having a team building opportunity, or it’s the ability to “kill two birds with one stone” (quality time with friends and a work out).

This Series offers you opportunities to get your group involved! Whether you are part of a business or corporation, a church group, a networking club or you just plain have a large sphere of influence, we want to give you additional perks, extra benefits and some love for being the Social Butterfly you are. See the Team Program section on the right for details.

REGISTRATION

If you missed the opportunity to register for all 8 races, no problem!  You can still participate! Just register for each event individually.  Registration for individual events will become available 2-3 months prior to the race.

AWARDS

We did some thinking and came up with an exciting award system for this Series.

Signature 8 Club - This is the Cool-Kids-Club of foot races! What do you have to do to be inducted? Finish ANY distance of ALL Signature Series races, regardless of finish time! What, that’s it? Oh yeah! We want to award you for having the commitment to finish out the Series in whatever capacity you are capable. So whether you run the shortest distance for all 8 events (4 Mile or 5K), you challenge yourself to run the longest distance for all events or some combination there-of, you will be part of the Signature 8 Club Class of 2013.

Wait – there’s more! You don’t just get inducted into the Club, everyone that completes all 8 races will receive a huge, honkin, baller-status medal at the end of the year. (Design will be posted before the season starts!)

Lowest Cumulative Time Awards - For those of you that are competitive and like a challenge, we will also offer awards to the runners that complete the Series with the lowest cumulative CHIP times. To be eligible, runners must finish the longest distance of ALL 8 events (qualifying distances are marked by * on the schedule). We will take the CHIP TIMES of the runners that finished all 8 qualifying events and add them together for a cumulative time. The runners with the Lowest Cumulative Times will be eligible for the below category awards:

Charlotte’s Runner of the Year - At the end of the year, the Male with the overall Lowest Cumulative Time will be dubbed Charlotte’s Male Runner of the Year and the Female with the overall Lowest Cumulative Time will be dubbed Charlotte’s Female Runner of the Year. They will each be awarded $1,000 CASH – now that is some moola!

Age Group - The Top Males and Top Females of each age group will also be awarded at the end of the year. The number of placements for each age group will be based on the final number of eligible runners within each age group (we aren’t sure how many people will actually be up for the Lowest Cumulative Time challenge!)

# of Eligible Runners : Placements Awarded

4 or Less : Top Finisher

5-8 : Top 2

9 or more : Top 3

Age Group Categorie: 19 & Under; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-59; 70 & Over

Your age group for the Series will be determined by your age as of December 31, 2013, regardless of where your birthday falls throughout the year. For example, you are 34 now and will turn 35 on December 10, 2013. Then your age group for the year would be 35-39. Note: Age groups awards given out at individual races will be based on your age the day of the race. For example, if you are 34 now but turn 35 on April 10, 2013 then you are eligible for a 30-34 age group award at the Shamrock 4 Miler (March 16, 2013) and a 35-39 age group award at Celebrate Better Health (April 19, 2013). See individual race websites for information on the awards being handed out at that particular race.

We will allow you to miss one of the first four races, with a 2 minute penalty.  You may miss only one between the Shamrock 4 Miler, Charlotte's Largest Office Party 5K, Skirt Chaser 5K or the July 4th Spectacular 4 Miler.  If you miss one, we will take your time from the equivalent distance event, and use that time in place of your missed event, plus a 1 minute penalty.  For example, if you run Shamrock in 18:02 but miss the Spectacular 4 Miler, we will add 2 minute to your Shamrock time (20:02) and us that as your finish time for the Spectacular 4 Miler.
