Grand Prix Series
What is the 2012 Run For Your Life GPx Series? These are the best “short races” – 5Ks to 15K – in the Carolinas! If you are going to participate in an event this year, be sure it’s a Run For Your Life GPx Series event! Why you ask? What makes these events so different from others? Well, here are just a few reasons why:
- A MINIMUM of $1,000 in Door Prizes at every event just for you
- Music and entertainment at every race;
- Chip Time and Gun Time at every race – with Age Group Awards by CHIP TIME;
- Premium Tee Shirts at every race;
- Deluxe Awards at every race;
- The BIGGEST and BEST post-race celebration at every event including free food and drinks, music, interactive games and sponsor booths and more!
SHAMROCK??
We know what you are thinking - but don't you worry, the Shamrock 4 Miler is still happening - it's just not part of the Series this year! We've partnered with the Stonecrest at Piper Glen's Easter Festival and Shamrock is going to be a pretty big, bad and burly event on it's own! Plus - a new Start and Finish Line!
GRAND PRIX SCORING & RULES
Every finisher earns points regardless of their time or place! This means you can have competitions within your office, neighborhood, or with a friendly (or not-so-friendly) rival. At each race, the men's and women's overall winners will each earn 1,000 points (no separate overall or age group scoring). Your score will be determined by dividing your time into your gender winner's time and multiplying by 1000.
For example, the male winner of the 5K runs 15:00 and you (a male) run 24:00.
15.0/24.0 = .625 x 1,000 points = 625
You would receive 625 points in this example.
Grand Prix scoring for all award categories is based on gun time only! The age group awards handed out at individual GPx races will be based on chip time, but Grand Prix scoring will be based on gun time!
You must run 5 of the 9 events to be eligible for an award and only the top 7 scores will count – your 2 lowest score(s) will be tossed.
For the most accurate scores and results, please be sure that when you register for GPx events that you USE A CONSISTENT NAME. For example, if you register for one race as James Doe but then a second race as Jim Doe, the results will be scored as if it were two separate people. Please notify us of any name changes, such as taking on a married name.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Do you have a pulse? – You’re eligible! Student-athletes, high school students and youth are eligible to participate and be scored, however if you score high enough for a placement award, they will be awarded the placement title, but you are not eligible to receive any prize money or merchandise awards.
CLYDESDALE/ATHENA
Clydesdales: Men who weigh at least 185 pounds.
Athenas: Women who weigh at least 140 pounds.
You may be asked to weigh in wearing your normal running attire at any of the events. Points are accumulated as in age groups, and the top three qualify.
You must check the Clydesdale/Athena box for EVERY event you wish to compete as such. Your Clydesdale/Athena status will not automatically be carried over from race to race. You will only receive GPx points within the Clydesdale/Athena category for races you checked the Clydesdale/Athena box for. For example, if you run all GPx Series races but only checked Clydesdale/Athena for seven of those races, you will only have 7 races scored towards that category and you will not receive the 250 bonus points applied to your Clydesdale/Athena score for running all 9.
PLANNING TO RUN ALL RACES?
There will be a 250 point bonus for any one participating in all 9 events.
NO DOUBLE POINTS & NO EVENT SPECIFIC BONUSES
If you would like to receive bonus points this year than you better get training and participate in all 9 events – otherwise no bonus points for you!
HAVE TO MISS AN EVENT?
Not a problem. We automatically deduct the two lowest scores from your total at the end of the season – so if you miss an event and get 0 points, that race will be deducted from your final score. You just miss out on the bonus 250 points for running all 9.
